Review: Puss In Boots Suspended Roller Coaster In Singapore
Meow!! The world’s most famous swashbuckling’ cat opens a new ride based on its story at Universal Studios Singapore!
Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey is the world’s first suspended roller coaster themed after the famous cat! My kids went ballistic when I told them that we were invited to the opening of Puss’ new ride at Universal Studios Singapore (USS). They pleaded with me to let them go with me even though it was a school day. I am not sure if they learnt anything in school that day as their minds were far, far away (pun intended).
As soon as school was out, we rushed down to Far Far Away at USS…
The adventure onboard the world’s first suspended roller coaster themed after the Puss In Boots franchise begins in the ruins of the Giant’s Castle entwined within a giant beanstalk. The castle is located at the end of Romeo Drive in the Far Far Away themed zone.
Mr. John Hallenbeck, Senior Vice President of Attractions at Resorts World Sentosa, says that “The overwhelming response to The Dance for the Magic Beans live street show, which premiered last September, is telling of the popularity that Puss In Boots enjoys in this region. Families and thrill-seekers alike can now ‘Ride the Movies’ onboard this new attraction, which brings to life the characters and adventures of Puss In Boots.”
Guests are invited to climb into Humpty Alexander Dumpty’s latest Flying Machine found in the Giant’s kitchen. Each machine seats 9 guests.
About Humpty Alexander Dumpty’s latest flying machines
The flying machines in this ride are the handy works of Humpty Alexander Dumpty. As a part-time inventor and talented designer, he has been experimenting and building contraptions including his latest model which you will take to the top of the castle. Each Flying Machine comes equipped with a Golden Egg Retriever on the back as well as giant beanstalk leaves that can unroll to provide shelter for its dwellers, amongst other features. Each machine comes with a unique name:
- Cat Copter
- Gosling Glider
- Puss’s Prop Plane
- Humpty’s Helicopter
- Jack and Jill’s Jalopy
- Kitty’s Kite Cruiser
- Magic Bean Airship
After a long wait, finally, it is our turn to get on the Humpty Alexander Dumpty’s latest Flying Machine!
The quest begins here as Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws go in search of the precious golden eggs in a bid to save San Ricardo’s Orphanage, which has fallen on hard times. Guests will join in the legendary exploits of Puss In Boots as they take off on an anti-gravity swashbuckling flight.
Psst… The BEST SEAT in the ride is the BACK / LAST row on the machine where you feel the maximum effect of the thrusts and motion.
The mission runs into trouble when they are spotted by a Tattletale gosling who alerts the Great Terror of their presence in the castle. Once exposed, riders are rocketed through plenty of twists and turns as they are pursued by the Great Terror, who turns out to be one big Mama Goose!
Watch out for Tattletale, the newest villain in this animation ride. Tattletale has always been unique among his fellow gosling siblings. With a watchdog attitude and an extra loud honk, he stands out from the usual cooing and chirping in the nest. But his mother, also known as the Great Terror, loves him all the same and will stop at nothing to protect him and her other babies.
The ride takes about 2 minutes! Here are some scenes from the ride to look out for!
This ride is more suited for children aged under eight years old who will enjoy the ride although the occasional jerks may startle the younger ages. Adults and some older children (9 years and over) may not find the ride too thrilling.
If your kids (like mine) are adrenaline junkies, they may not find the subsequent rides as exciting and therefore not worth the 40-minute waiting time. My kids resolved this dilemma by going for the other more exhilarating rides suited to their thrill appetites — Transformer, Jurassic, and the Mummy rides! In the evening, about 5pm when the crowd thinned out, they returned to Puss In Boots Giant Journey for their seconds and thirds.
