A to Z Guide on Christmas Decorations

Experts say that you get a spike in dopamine, the feel-good hormone from Christmas decorating. For many of us trying to create a wonderful childhood memory for our kids, decorating our Christmas Tree may actually help us to be happier people.

 Tips From Decorating Professionals

  1. Invest in a quality tree. Choose the right tree size for your home. A great tree has the right lights, the right tree stand, and having a great tree skirt. Make sure to fluff and shape branches so that it has the optimal effect.
  2. Design around a theme. Experts advise against overcrowding the tree. Choose a simple theme such as Scandinavian, natural or minimalist, and decorate the Christmas tree accordingly. Keep the colors scheme in mind by thinking about how the colors and design will mesh with the existing colors and decor styles in your home.
  3. Start with the lights first. Choose LED lights that are labeled “warm” as they give you the cozy glow effect of Christmas. When hanging the lights, make sure the lights shine through your ornaments which adds sparkle to the ornament and highlight the decorations on your tree.
  4. Cluster your baubles. Position your ornaments in a way that they are all on display. Start with your largest bauble on the top and work your way down, filling in as you go. Add layers and style with ribbons to add texture to the tree.
  5. Choose the right decorations. Whether you are decorating with garlands, ribbons, flowers, baubles, or specialty ornaments, remember that Christmas decorations are about family. The perfect Christmas decorations are one where every member of the family, even your youngest child, has a say in how it looks.
  6. Take a step back to survey your tree. Experts advise using zip ties or green floral wire to secure any loose strands or fragile ornaments. Add to or remove any ornaments that are out of place.

Christmas Colors and Trends for 2019

In 2019, the color blue is the definitive Christmas color, replacing traditional festive colors green, red, and gold. Think deep midnight blues, aquamarine hues, and cerulean as both main and accent colors when you decorate your tree. For those of you who prefer a modern and chic Christmas decoration for your house, try using subtle-colored ornaments like white, gray, and beige.

Another Christmas trend that is making a big splash in 2019 is dots and lines. You can find it in many home decor like table runners or pillow covers. Other trends also include ornaments that light up from within. Warm golden lights from the past also make a comeback this year. Use magical string lights to create the perfect backdrop for your holiday party by simply hanging them in front of a window, wall, or curtain. They also make very good props or backgrounds for your Instagram photos.
