My husband and I love to travel and explore new places. When we had kids, we decided that they should not stop us from seeing the world. We just incorporated them into our travel plans. When my son was four months old, we flew with him to Dubai, a 7-hour flight away from Singapore. As I was nursing him then, travelling to Dubai, and later to India was a breeze.

Also, travelling is a great way for us to spend some quality time as a family unit, since we have a helper who lives with us. As they got older, we have contemplated travelling without them, but what’s the fun in that? Who can I show off where I went to school in San Francisco and the places I used to hang out (Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman’s Wharf) as a teenager? Who will be wowed by my unimpressive prowess in the sea? And who else better to share my first time at Disneyland (Hong Kong and Orlando, Florida) than my 2 and 4-year-olds?
We figure that we have a good decade of travelling with the kids and showing them the “wonders” of the world before they wise up and trade us for younger, more fun and energetic versions. By which time, my husband and I promise to travel like the “rich and famous” and sojourn to more exotic locations like Tuscany, Monaco and the French Riviera.
