Kids: Things To Do For FREE

As the month-long June holiday (25 May – 24 June) begins at the end of the week, parents are scouting for activities to keep the kids occupied and out of trouble.  Here are some suggestions of activities that you can do with your kids. For FREE.

1. Check out a host of activities, workshops and events at the Children’s Season 2012 (18 May – 24 June). Enjoy free admission at participating museums* and redeem exclusive gifts (T&C apply) at the following venues:

Asian Civilisations Museum – 9 – 10 June, Activities from 1pm – 6pm, Admission: FREE

For the month of August, Singaporeans and PRs can visit these museums for FREE; and schedule in a visit on National Day (Aug 9) and Hari Raya (Aug 30) for their open house.

2. Fancy a bit of outdoor music? Opera in The Park is back for its 5th season to allow Singaporeans a chance to expand their musical experience to include favourites from musicals and opera. Expect to be blown away by music from West Side Story, Madam Butterfly, Aida and Tosca. This event is FREE admission at Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, Singapore Botanic Gardens, 11 June (Saturday) at 6pm. Go early to book a nice picnic spot.

3. Speaking of parks, did you know that Singapore has over 300 parks? And there are lots of things that you can do  in these parks – for FREE.  If you are a nature-lover or want your children to explore the great outdoors, the National Parks has a list of wonderful DIY-trail-guides for you to follow.

One of the highlights is Treetop Walking on a free-standing suspension bridge that connects the two highest points (Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang) in MacRitchie and offers a bird’s eye view of the community of plants and animals that live in the forest canopy.

And if you like the idea of treetop walking, you may also enjoy walking along the highest pedestrain bridge in Singapore, the Henderson Waves Bridge.
